Okibatsu is our new SEO word for the rest of the 2007-2008 school year. Okibatsu now will appear in search engines more often. The word Okibatsu means big punishment. Our main goal is to get Okibatsu ranked number one on Google. Also, there is an award for the person who gets their page in that number one position using Okibatsu. Now, Okibatsu is appearing is search engines such as Yahoo!, MSN, as well as Dogpile. This competition is getting serious and Okibatsu is becoming a popular slang in the IT building of Niceville High School.

The Internet has seen a tremendous growth. As more web pages are developed, people need an easier way on finding their website. That is why search engines have come into play. It is important to understand how web pages are found on major search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, and MSN. To have web pages found, a Web Directory has been developed. There are 5 types of directories namely Human Edited, User Categorized, User Classified, Independently Classified and Pay Per Click (PPC). The largest directories today are Yahoo! and DMOZ (directory.mozilla.org). There are many search engines available on the internet. Since it’s impossible for all to create, manage, and update their own database, most of them rely on results from major search engines on their SERP (search engine results page). Different search engines can provide different results to other engines such as AskJeeves. Also, the site’s page rank is very vital especially on Google. This is why (SEO) Search Engine Optimization is very important.
